The cover is for Grey – VIZ home video releases are still the priority for covers.

This issue is mainly about Sailor Moon – and lots of it. I scanned Part 2 of Sailor Moon Beyond since I scanned the first one. This one covers Sailor S. 5 pages of analysis. Wow. I miss articles like these.

The next two pages I scanned are an interview with Terri Hawkes – the voice actor for Sailor Moon. The introduction for the interview states that Sailor Moon is more widely popular in Canada due to its success on YTV – their Cartoon Network equivalent – airing up to 3 times a day.

The ADV Neon Genesis Evangelion ad wins the award for multiple font colors. I count 6.

The news section states that the first anime DVD releases were:

  • Battle Arena Toshinden – US Manga Corps
  • Street Fighter II- The Animated Movie – Sony Music Corp
  • Ghost in the Shell -Special Edition – Manga Entertainment”

And so I give you the first studio DVD ad from Manga Entertainment promoting Ghost In The Shell.

How do you make more money on a successful anime series? Merchandise! Ghost In The Shell Chromium Trading Cards.

First Appearance of Urban Vision in this issue. They have bold claims: “Step Into The Future of Alternative Animation. American Anime – Setting New Standards In Japanese Animation” – BioHunter and Gatchaman were their first releases. Check out the lower right hand corner – they had a logo for American Anime

The news section also had announced the release of Dragon Ball Z VHS videos from Pioneer.  Check the right hand side. I forgot that Sailor Moon was on USA Network.
